Furthermore, this boundary microphone is compatible with Kelly Shu mounting, expanding its versatility significantly. Low cut. This switch allows you to reduce low-frequency response at two distinct frequencies (80 or 160 Hz) or leave it completely flat. The low-cut filter decreases undesired footfall noise and rumbles in applications such as room miking or speaking. It can also be used to reduce the proximity effect. Attenuation Pad When active, the attenuation pad suppresses the microphone signal by 10 or 20 decibels, preventing loud sources from overloading your mixer, preamplifier, or audio interface. The pad is deactivated at its middle position, but the microphone output remains unaffected. When miking a kick drum, it is recommended that you start with a 10 dB attenuation. For really loud sources, you may need to use the 20 dB attenuator. Moderately loud sources should be fine with the 0 dB setting. Character The optimal studio kick drum tone is frequently different from preferences in a live sound setting. Swappable Capsule The capsule inside the sE Electronics BL8 can be replaced with an alternative, such as the sE8 omnidirectional capsule, allowing for an even wider range of applications. Simply spin the screw in the center of the microphone grille until it loosens, then remove and replace the capsule retention screw. Surface Mounting The BL8 can be fixed with screws to a surface, wall, ceiling, or the lid of a grand piano. Simply open the microphone as if you were changing the capsule. The two attachment points are covered with black stickers; use a sharp tool to remove them. Then, with a sharp instrument, punch through the underlying protective foil and install as desired with screws (not included).
